2010 Religious Liberty Restoration Amendment - RLRA
HEADLINE: RLRA Initiative Approved for June 2012 Ballot
Great News!!
The Secretary of State has validated more than enough signatures to place the RLRA petition initiative on the June 2012 ballot.
"We are so excited!! Thanks to the 30,000 who signed, the churches who participated, and especially the 700 circulators," says Tom Freier. "WOW!! Job well done!"
The RLRA will be constitutional measure #3 on the June ballot. With its passage, we will see stronger protections for our First Amendment rights of " freedom of religion and the expression thereof".
The next step will be to pull together our coalition partners to set a plan working toward passage of the measure. "We believe the people of North Dakota will be very receptive to the passage of the measure, and the religious liberty protections it provides," Tom Freier.
Religious Liberty Restoration Amendment
Government may not burden a person's or religious organization's religious liberty. The right to act or refuse to act in a manner motivated by a sincerely held religious belief may not be burdened unless the government proves it has a compelling governmental interest in infringing the specific act or refusal to act and has used the least restrictive means to further that interest. A burden includes indirect burdens such as withholding benefits, assessing penalties, or an exclusion from programs or access to facilities.
