RLRA Fall Campaign to Ramp Up
First of all, let us thank all those who have circulated and signed the petition.
Greetings from the entire RLRA coalition team. We want to give you an update on the crucially important campaign to collect signatures to place the Religious Liberty Restoration Amendment on the ballot to allow the people of North Dakota to vote on the ND constitutional measure to restore religious liberties removed by non elected justices
Since we began in early summer, over 22,000 of the required 25,688 signatures have been gathered. Thank you to the 500 circulators; and all who signed. Your efforts have amazed us, and we thank God for your commitment. Capitalizing on the late summer momentum; now is the time to finish the job.
Even though we have until April 2011, we are placing a self imposed, suggested deadline of October 8, 2010 to collect the remaining signatures. With the required signatures, the measure will be placed on a 2012 ballot. We need your help one more time.
In an ad done by our friends, Ed and Nancy Schafer—they put it very simply:
“Our religious liberties are precious, and under attack.
Whether prohibiting a student from wearing a cross to school, forcing a nurse to dispense abortion inducing drugs, or forcing a business to provide services against its beliefs—our religious freedoms are in jeopardy because of a court ruling by non-elected justices.
It is time to act!! Sign the Religious Liberty Restoration Amendment to allow the people of North Dakota to vote to restore and preserve our religious liberties.”
The purpose of the amendment is very simple, to restore to the people of North Dakota our religious liberties removed by a court outside of North Dakota.
To complete the petition process and place this measure on the 2012 ballot, we need to collect an additional 5000 signatures—guaranteeing that we will have more than enough qualified signatures. To accomplish this, we are asking you to make one more effort, and please fill at least one more petition.
If the effort was done in your church, please do it again.* Give those an opportunity to sign who may have been gone over the summer. If there was no formal effort in your church, please visit with your pastor. If your church is having a fall festival or supper (even if after our targeted deadline), please use this opportunity--ask to collect at the event? We need you to fill at least one more petition!
Thank you so much for helping us to finish the job. Remember to review the instructions, have the petition notarized, and mailed to NDFA by October 8th or after your event.. Remember, we want to complete the collections as soon as possible.
If you have any questions, please contact NDFA or NDCC. Thank you again for your passionate commitment to protect our religious liberty for our children and grandchildren.

*Suggested dates to collect signatures at your church, Sept 19th, Sept 26th, or Oct 3rd. Select which date may work best at your church, and remember to contact NDFA if you have questions.
Religious Liberty Restoration Amendment
Government may not burden a person's or religious organization's religious liberty. The right to act or refuse to act in a manner motivated by a sincerely held religious belief may not be burdened unless the government proves it has a compelling governmental interest in infringing the specific act or refusal to act and has used the least restrictive means to further that interest. A burden includes indirect burdens such as withholding benefits, assessing penalties, or an exclusion from programs or access to facilities.
