Celebrating Success on Life- HB 1371 & HB 1445
We are very proud to share some successes in the sanctity of life legislative arena, and we are very confident these successes will translate into saving unborn lives. "Working together, a great deal can be accomplished" is more than a slogan. Thanks to all, and to God be the glory. Tom D. Over the past year, by way of our newsletters and email alerts, we have highlighted our 2009 legislative agenda in the area of life. We focused on 3 different areas: 1) an ultrasound bill 2) an addition to our informed consent language to be shared with a pregnant woman "the abortion will terminate the life of a separate, unique, living human being," 3) enhancing the alternatives to abortion program.
NDFA took the lead on HB 1371, the ultrasound bill, and HB 1445, the informed consent bill. We provided language for the drafting of the bills and worked with pro-life legislators who showed their support by becoming bill sponsors. Thank you to those sponsors (pictured with Gov. Hoeven and some of our partners at a ceremonial bill signing- see below). Rep. Bette Grande was the prime sponsor on HB 1371 and Rep. Chuck Damschen primed HB 1445.
Working with sponsors and partners, NDFA assisted in the passage of the alternatives to abortion bill, SB 2391. We need to thank our coalition partners- Right to Life, Concerned Women of America, and the ND Catholic Diocese- in the passage of these life bills.
