The Importance of Fatherhood
Tom “The Importance of Fatherhood”, today’s topic for ‘Celebrating Family Week, 2009.
This is Tom Freier asking you to join the North Dakota Family Alliance as we promote families spending time together.
Early in American history fathers and sons worked and played side by side, providing daily opportunities for instruction and guidance. Today, many children have absentee fathers, whether due to long work hours, divorce, or just a lack of commitment to parenting.
Research shows that children need the firm leadership a father provides and learn from watching and listening as fathers deal with the daily task of decision-making. With a father’s interest and involvement, children perform better in school and have fewer discipline problems.
Involved fathers find time to share with their children. They adjust work schedules, limit personal recreational activity time, pull themselves away from the TV, and just find TIME, the most valuable commodity they have share with their children as they encourage with the unconditional love of a father.
